Fast Fact

Groundwood papers yellow quickly in response to light; a book produced with groundwood will begin to yellow within a matter of days. It will also yellow with exposure to heat.

The use of groundwood papers in publishing is rising dramatically. Up to 50% of the books appearing on the New York Times and Publishers Weekly bestseller lists (both fiction and non-fiction) are now printed on groundwood papers. Groundwood papers are a lesser-quality, less expensive paper used throughout the publishing industry now. It results in a book that yellows quickly and degrades more rapidly than those printed on Permanent Paper. In 1989, in an effort to bring awareness of this trend, The "Declaration of Book Preservation" was signed by more than three dozen publishers.

The authors you represent put their blood, sweat and tears into their works, sometimes over the course of many years. We believe their work should last over generations. Your authors trust you with their work—ask their publisher what paper they are using to print their books. Your clients' work deserves Permanent Paper.
