Check if your book is on permanent paper.
Fast Fact

Groundwood papers do not meet the ANSI standards for paper permanence. Groundwood papers contain a large percentage of lignin, which is the "glue" that holds wood fibers together.

Benefits of Book Preservation

We believe books are important. We believe that books are fundamental to the growth of our culture, the preservation of our history and the education of our people. As such they should be treasured and protected. We believe that the PERMANENCE of books matters. Because of these beliefs it is our position that publishing a first-printing, hardcover trade book on groundwood paper automatically makes the choice that the book does not need to be protected. By not using Permanent Paper, a book has been produced not to endure but to degrade. We believe that printing first-run hardcover books on Permanent Paper is the only way to ensure the permanence of that book.

Today, up to 50% of the titles on the New York Times' and Publishers Weekly Bestseller lists are published on groundwood papers. Those books will NOT last the test of time, whether that is in a personal library, a public or institutional library, or as a keepsake for future generations of your family.
